Train Simulator: Miami - West Palm Beach Route Add-On

Updated: Mar 16, 2020

About This Content Soak up the sun in the new Miami - West Palm Beach route for Train Simulator and drive the commuter rail line under cloudless blue skies from Mangonia Park to Miami Airport. The 70 mile (114 km) long route runs parallel to the Southeast Florida coast and has 18 stations along its length. A typical station on the route is composed of two side platforms connected by an overpass and two tracks, one for southbound trains and the other for northbound trainsThe most notable station along the stretch of line is West Palm Beach, which opened to passengers in 1925. This station was fully restored in 1991 and is on the National Register of Historic Places, its pastel walls and iconic architecture contrast the heady diesels that roll through. The new Miami Airport Station features prominently alongside Miami Central Station, although it is still to be officially opened. The two stations are a key point on the route, joining rail, metro, bus and airport shuttle services in one large transport hubUnder an agreement with the Florida Department of Transportation, CSX provides dispatch services, plant maintenance and freight traffic on the route, alongside passenger services operated by Amtrak. The route is relatively high speed too, with a maximum permissible speed of 79mph (127 km/h) for passenger traffic and 60mph (96 km/h) for freight traffic. Also included with the route are the P42DC and the Dash 8-40CW locomotives. The Silver Star passenger service is replicated on the route, which originates in Miami and runs all the way to New York along the Atlantic Coast. Between New York and Washington the train is hauled by either ACS-64, HHP-8 or AEM-7 locomotives; between Washington and Miami, P42s are used. The Silver Star has a distinctive set of coaches so travellers can travel the long distance in comfort.ScenariosEight scenarios for the route:Welcome to FloridaSouthern Silver ServiceRock Through the NightGrand OpeningDash 8 Yard WorkSilver Star to MiamiMainline FreightFlorida StormMore scenarios are available on Steam Workshop online and in-game. For example, the P42 is actually just a reskin of the P32DC-AM, meaning that there are still features such as 3rd rail electrical pickups present on the locomotive when in reality there are none. The paint on both the locomotives is lacking; the sounds on both locos are not good, but can be replaced. The amfleet passenger cars have strechy couplers, and the wheels on the passenger cars do not always appear to line up with the tracks. In the Dash 8, there is no way to toggle the ditch lights, or instrument lights by using the keyboard alone. The headlight on the Dash 8 looks weird when viewed from the distance. The scenarios do not seem very realistic. Once again, DTG has made you follow an extremely strict timetable for freight scenarios. Also, in the first freight scenario, your train is routed on to a 15 mph siding for...no reason. No, I didn't change the switch myself. In quick drive, if you try to drive south, your train will be facing north. The scenery is the best that DTG has ever done. Alright, there isn't enough traffic on I-95, but that's okay. As a route alone, it is fantastic, however I would've liked to see better rolling stock and scenarios included to take advantage of what there is to see.. Very nice route and includes some great CSX and AMTRAK usage. But I wish this had other engine units and cars. **This is a temporary review** August 10, 2018Currently, I am unable to run Quick Drive on this route. The game actually freezes upon loading, crashing, and causing me to exit altogether. I am afraid to try career scenarios. I am glad I bought this on sale because I liked this route while it worked. I will update this review if/when it is fixed. Very disappointed in DTG. The route feel very accurate and all of the stations are in place that both Tri-Rail and Amtrak goes to. All of the stations are looked a like in real life. I live in South Florida so this route is a must for me to get which I got in the Summer collection in 2015. The P42DC comes with this route along with a CSX Dash 8-40CW.PROS:+Route to cover the whole way from Miami Airport Station to Mangonia Park (75 Miles Long).+New Amtrak coaches for Sliver Star and Sliver Meteor runs.+All stations are very detailed+Quiet zones along the route+8 scenarios to do+The route is flat due to it's in Florida.+The feel when you drive in South Florida's rail is great.CONS:-In a couple of level crossings, cars will spwan on the crossing even if the crossing gates are closed.-Wrong physics on the CSX Dash-8 and has awful braking.-The sounds on both locos were reused and sounds bad (The P42 sounds like the one from Empire Builder pack and the Dash 8 sounds like a BNSF Dash 9.-The P42's wipers are in the WRONG position inside.-The Amtrak logo font is wrong on the P42's.-I-95 looks like a road of waste compared to what it is in real life.-No insde view of the new Viewliners but they look eye candy from the outside.Almost everything in the cons can be fixed by downloading the right mods but I would give this route 6.0/10. I still recommend it but get it on sale which is my best bet.. Just to start off, I think the Sherman Hill route felt more scenic and enjoyable that this. I very quickly ran through most of the route and was seemingly accurate (Judging only from Train Maps Live) but the only thing you really get to see most of the time is the roads/highways and they are roughly put together (Some roads going to/over the crossing aren’t even correct and 1 or 2 crossing(s) have cars that spawn right in front of them and driving over regardless if the crossing gates are closed). All scenarios function correctly, the driver cabs, train exterior and passenger view look good and sounds are quality. Now getting the biggest bundle for this route (Giving me 3 more trains with 3 scenarios each) did give me more to do, but it didn’t feel completely worth getting the extra DLC cause the only thing i’ve sort of found “worth” is the P42DC Amtrak loco/cars you get with this. In the end even though it’s Miami and the map has some good effort but the scenarios make it feel bland to me (Even the “Florida Storm” scenario isn’t to eventful… it just rains for a while causing no dilemmas which isn’t what I expected from the first time playing it).
